What should go in this blog’s redesign?
A list of what should be included:
- Header (header.php)
- Blog title
- Tagline
- Content (index.php)
- Posts (post.php)
- Post titles (Seperated from content boxing or integrated?)
- Post categories
- Where should the post meta go? (left, right, bottom, top? An interesting experiment)
- Post tags
- Author name
- Make it obvious to the reader (avatars help)
- Author avatar
- Switchable author images?
- Indicate moods/emotions at a glance
- Post content
- Flexible width?; needs to stand out above all else (except for post titles)
- Comment link
- Can’t really comment without one
- Date
- Organize posts by date? (current)
- Put date on posts (posts are in a list, each one contains the date)
- Comments (comments.php)
- Comment avatar ( left align or right align?)
- Comment spacing (do not want comments that blend together)
- Box in comments? (engadget/joystiq style)
- Avatar/spacing/enumeration? (current)
- Recaptcha style integration (I would put it to the right of the comment box)
- Comment indentation (reply to) vs enumerated comment list (current)
- Posts (post.php)
- Sidebar (menu.php)
- WP Wall (ditch/re-evaluate integration?)
- Twitter posts (header relocation? [if it's big enough])
- Search bar (necessary? probably…)
- Category links (yes)
- Internet links (duh)
- Blog admin links (maybe not? then everyone will have to remember to use /wp-admin/ in the URL)
- Tag cloud? (with our prodigious usage of them, it would get very cluttered)
- Footer (footer.php)
- WordPress credits
- Theme author credit (me!)
- Easter eggs (for people who actually look at it)
- try to flesh the footer out more
- slickdeals.net as an example
- try to flesh the footer out more
- Misc.
- Theme colors?
- Blue/black (or vice versa)
- Black/grey
- Greyish green (current)
- White/black (tricky)
- Layout?
- Fluid-width (current) vs fixed-width (wordpress default theme) (you had better scale those pics properly!)
- How many columns? (currently 2; more than 3 looks cluttered to me but I can reconsider)
- Center vs left-align? (center seems good; irrelevant for fluid-width)
- Boxy? Circular? Griddy?
- Pages (page.php)
- About the author(s)
- Fundamentally different style than the rest of blog?
- Other stuff
- Integration (∫)
- Integrate the blog with a normal website?
- What would go in it? :-p
- Integrate the blog with a normal website?
- Theme colors?
Does anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking a “blue / dark navy ” motif, with some cerulean in there somewhere.
Otherwise, black and grey would be a pretty decent fit.
Purple and white would be something different.
Orange and green could be a secret selectable theme, but that would require me writing/finding a plug-in for that…
I like the current scheme, although different color options could be neat.
I think I’ll color code categories / change category fonts like how Gmail Labs has the custom label-coloring feature. That would be really freaking neat. The options would have to go on a separate settings page for the theme.
This theme is simply matchless
, it is interesting to me)))
I join. I agree with told all above. Let’s discuss this question. Here or in PM.
I regret, that I can help nothing. I hope, you will find the correct decision. Do not despair.
I think, you will come to the correct decision.
I am final, I am sorry, would like to offer other decision.
I don’t like the green. Or the font, actually.
And I think the “internet” and “people” areas could stand to be organized more.
What part of the font don’t you like? The header font, the body font or both? The Times New Roman font for the header feels a bit too out of place, but I can’t really think of a good font to replace it with. It just “fits” with the overall scheme, but maybe there’s something better.
The reason I keep the green-ish grey color is because it’s very neutral, and so I don’t need to worry about color compatibility too much. I kind of wanted to try black, but I did that like a couple years ago and it didn’t look very good. It felt too dark. I guess a blue might work, but I dunno. I prefer green.
And finally, the two areas are alphabetized. I didn’t want to break it up more than two or three categories because then people might confuse the category links and miscellaneous links with the internet links.
